Journal (2026-09-03) - Ants in pantry and house cleaning

Despite not writing much this past week, I have been keeping busy. Most of it is either personal or mundane in nature, which I prefer to keep off the blog, however the past week has been good!

It's still hot and dry here in Texas, but I've been keeping cool indoors. Fortunately the house stays rather cool despite not being very well sealed. Because of this, I've been battling bugs getting into the house in search of food, such as ants getting into my pantry!

The first round, they got into some sorghum syrup drops from a jar I had up in the cabinet. The second round, they were attracted to my frying pans and pot holders, which I keep meticulously clean, but there was something about it they liked. The third round, they were attracted to some sweet spots on the counter top beside the sink from a milkshake I made the night before that I failed to wipe away. This recent round they got into the cabinets with my sugars and flour, but thankfully they were drawn to some old expired Ramen noodles and a bag of raisins instead of the sugar. And just last night they got back into my pans again, grrrr!

Since it's been awhile, I went ahead and sprayed poison around the permitter of the house.

Speaking of spiders, one day I noticed all at once that spiders were taking over my living room. Now these were little harmless cobweb spiders that like to live up in the corners, along the ceiling, and in your windows. I spent a good two hours vacuuming every crevice and corner in that living room because they were everywhere! I felt like I was living in the Munsters house over here!

I also spray poison down in doors except for the cat room, or around the cats.

Sadly, I've not been able to get back onto my window project this past week. I hope that I should have some time this coming Friday and Saturday though. I spent all of last Saturday cleaning the house, especially those cobwebs, and was wiped out tired by the end of it.

I've also been doing a lot of cooking. I would like to get back into baking my own bread again, but this time I want a bread mixer. I've been baking everything by hand, even kneading by hand too. I've seen the way with a bread mixer in how quick and easy it makes the whole ordeal and now I want one!
